Kommune for language schools
Fill your timetable with weekly lessons, not message threads
Students book a free placement lesson from your website, buy a package of lessons and keep the same time every week. Teachers plan each lesson, set homework and record progress, while the classroom, reminders and credits take care of themselves.

Why it matters
What eats a language school's week
- Scheduling by message
- Every new student starts a thread of messages to find a time that suits them and a teacher, and another one each time they need to move a lesson. The admin work grows with every student you add.
- Packages kept in a spreadsheet
- Who paid for ten lessons, how many are left, whether last week's late cancel counted: the spreadsheet is always a week behind, and the awkward conversations follow.
- Students drift away before the exam
- Without a plan, homework or a score they can see, an IELTS student can't tell whether they're getting closer to their band. They stop booking before they get there.
A day with Kommune
A week at Maple Language School
The sample school runs the way a small online school with three teachers would on Kommune. Here's how it's set up and what happens from a student's first visit to their next lesson.
- 1
Set up the programs once
The director creates four courses, IELTS Preparation, CELPIP Preparation, Conversational French for Adults and French for Kids, and adds Daniel, Amira and Claire as teachers. Each course gets its kinds of class: a free 30-minute placement lesson, a one-to-one lesson that uses one credit, and a group class on a fixed weekly timetable. Every teacher keeps their own teaching hours, and a booked class blocks that time everywhere they work.
- 2
A visitor books a free placement lesson
The school's website lists every program with a Free trial button. The visitor picks a day, a time and a teacher in their own time zone, gives a name and email and confirms a code. Kommune creates their account, books the lesson, tells the teacher and emails the booking with the trial policy, how to join the classroom and a calendar file.
- 3
They buy a package of lessons
After the trial, the student buys 5, 10 or 20 lessons by card on the school's website, in one payment or monthly instalments. The credits appear in their account with an expiry date, and a numbered receipt arrives by email. The director can also give a package to a student who paid by e-Transfer and record the payment.
- 4
Same time, every week
On Book a class, the student picks Monday at 6 pm with Daniel and switches on Every week. Kommune keeps the next four Mondays booked, spends a credit as each one is booked and skips a week Daniel is away. Reminders go out a day and an hour before every class, and the student moves or cancels a lesson on their own up to 24 hours before it starts.
- 5
The lesson, in the school's own classroom
Ten minutes before the start, Join opens on the class page and on My learning. Teacher and student meet in Kommune's video classroom and share screens, and the lesson is recorded so both can watch it again for 14 days. Before marking the class done, Daniel writes the notes, sets homework and records a band estimate out of 9.
- 6
Homework, progress and a review
The student turns in homework as text, a file or a voice recording and gets feedback or another try. My learning shows lessons done against the program length, the latest score, credits left and achievements. When credits run low the student is reminded to renew, and after a class they're asked to review the teacher.
